Safe & Sound First, I want to check that you are all safe and sound. Nothing is more important. That’s why I want to underscore that SAFETY is our overriding priority on Drive Day. The Ops group has a good plan to keep everyone safe. But we all need to be safety officers on Dec. 5. Nothing is worth anyone getting sick. |

FOUR WEEKS TO GOOur Dec. 5 “Drive & Drop” Walk & Knock drive is almost here. I think we’re ready. It’s a new way of fulfilling our mission, and I can’t say how proud I am of everyone for refusing to cancel or postpone. It’s an honor to work with such dedicated folks.Big Kudos To Adam, Joe and their team for selecting our 8 drop-off sites — see below and at walkandknock.org — arranging for equipment, staffing, signage, personal protective equipment and even two videos showing how it works (on the web as well). We’re in good hands. Telling Our Story The marketing team – Isabella, Justin, Riana, Ali, Mariah, our WSUV GROUP and myself have big plans to get out the word. We waited until after the election, but now we’re in high gear. To wit:
Because of COVID, we are not distributing or collecting bags this year. No bag folding. No boxing. No 4,000 volunteers. We are asking folks to bring donations of non-perishable food and toiletries to one of our 8 drop sites. Or they can donate online at walkandknock.org or send a check to P.O. Box 353, Vancouver, WA, 98666. Roll Out Those Barrels Once again Sandy Conroy is overseeing the placement or more than two dozen barrels at Riverview Community Bank branches, Les Schwab Tire Centers and Cost Less Auto Parts. Plus a few other good-soul places. They’ll be out Dec. 1–14. What Can I Do? We have the 8 drop-off sites staffed. Besides following us on FaceBook, adults who want to help can offer to safely pick up food donations in their neighborhoods and bring them to one of the drop-off sites. Good activity for church groups, civic clubs, organizations which want to help. Remember: We’re not doing the drive as normal because we don’t want to risk the health of volunteers, especially young people. Be safe! |
