Dear Friend of Walk & Knock,
I’m writing to let you know that as with everything else this year, our Walk & Knock Food Drive will be different.
After much discussion, your Board has decided that running a normal drive with 3,500 volunteers is too risky given the COVID virus. But in these times of great need, we refused to cancel or postpone. We consulted with the County Health Department for guidelines, and after considering several options, arrived at an alternate plan.
This year, we will NOT purchase, fold, distribute or pick up our signature red grocery bags. Instead, we are asking folks to bring non-perishable groceries or toiletries to one of eight drop-off locations. We will send a large postcard to everyone in Clark County informing them of this change and letting them know where they can drop off their donations when those sites are confirmed. We do plan to put out barrels for after-drive donations.
Each site will have large tote boxes for donations. No boxing. Our folks will load the totes into semi truck trailers for delivery to the Clark County Food Bank. We will have about a dozen volunteers at each drop-off site, and there will be little if any contact between the public and our volunteers.
The public may also donate money on our website or send a check to our P.O. Box.
We’re hoping in this way we can still support the Food Bank as we have for 35 years without putting our volunteers at risk.
We on the Board want to express our deep appreciation for your efforts and our sincere hope that next year, along with everything else, we will be back to normal. Then we will need you more than ever. Comments and questions most welcome. See you in 2021!
Best regards,
Tom Knappenberger, Walk & Knock President
