Congratulations!![]() Driven and Dropped As you know, we had eight drop-off sites throughout the county. Big thanks to Joe Pauletto, Adam Hegewald, Janet Elliott, Donna Osgood, Beth Ceron, Jeff Fish, Carol Kreiter, James Fitzgerald, Ken Steinke and Dean Stenehjem for organizing them. Each had strict safety protocols, masks, disinfectant, vests and drive-through routes. I visited each and they were all impressively professional. Staying safe was our first goal and we did that. Collections The 130,000 pounds of food is about half of what we normally collect – but 100% more than if we had cancelled as so many others did. The huge spike in donations was due, I believe to two things: People not wanting to venture out because of COVID, and our community’s history of always stepping up when times are down. A $50,000 anonymous donation corralled by Justin Wood didn’t hurt. Digital Media Masters We were fortunate to have Dr. Dene Grigar’s WSUV digital media class help us out during this challenging year. Team leaders Ross Philbrook, Jake Magra, Brendan Reardon, Luke Moody and 13 others put together four outstanding videos, logos, hashtags and social media products. In this year of getting a whole new message out, they were a godsend. We wish them well as they begin their careers. Photos Every year when we need photos for publicity, we don’t have ‘em. Enter Denny Blair and Kevin Harper. Food Bank volunteers, they stepped up to take 265 photos on Drive Day. We’re set now! Keep on Truckin' Board Member Bill Lundin faithfully lines up trucking companies which donate big rigs and big-heart drivers to haul the thousands of pounds of food we collect. These are truly unsung heroes, so I like to sing their praises here: Thanks, ABC Transfer & Delivery (2 trucks), Woodland Truck Line, Corwin Beverage Co., Green Willow Trucking, National Transfer Inc. and Vancouver Warehouse and Distribution Co. Knights of the Highway, we salute you! Outta Site! Big kudos to the great eight that allowed us to collect at their sites: Parkrose Hardware on SE 1st; Walmart on Fourth Plain and Ward Road; Hudson’s Bay High School; Chuck’s Produce, Salmon Creek; ERS Rental Group, Camas; View Ridge Middle School, Ridgefield; Lewisville Intermediate Campus, Battle Ground and the Clark County Food Bank. Banking on Them Every year we couldn’t do what we do without the Clark County Food Bank folks. From Alan to Ali, Emily, Michele, Mariah, Brent, Brian, Tim and the rest – Thank You! Paying and Printing A special shout-out to Treasurer Kim Darrah and Secretary Kandie King. Kim is professionally handling a record flood of checks, PayPals and cash. Kandie rounded up the names of our 250 or so donors and is doing all the heavy lifting to get our thank you letters printed, addressed and mailed. Well done! Roll out the Barrels Another unsung W&K hero is Sandy Conroy. Again this year, Sandy oversaw the placement and collection of more than two dozen food barrels throughout the county. No small task! Thanks Sandy. ilani In addition to being a sponsor, ilani volunteered to put on its own food drive for us with four barrels. Thanks to Morgan Hill. We look forward to working with this class act next year. And so many others Thanking everyone is a daunting task. See The Columbian ad below. But special thanks to our sponsors, especially our four Title Sponsors, Riverview Community Bank, Bank of America, Cost Less Auto Parks and McDonald’s. Couldn’t do it without you! |
