Drive Day is almost here!McKinley-Walmart-truck-with-food-drive-banner

Saturday, Dec. 3rd, weā€™re back! After a two-year hiatus for COVID, we are back to picking up donations from front porches. Yes! We will have our usual 10 sectors (though the Sector F drop point has moved from Chuckā€™s Produce back to Alki Middle School) and mostly the same Area gathering spots.

No knock

We wonā€™t be knocking this year for safetyā€™sĀ sake. That darned bug is still out there and we want everyone to be safe. We will just pick up donations from porches.

volunteer!Volunteers getting donations from a car

WeĀ are in urgent need of volunteers! Our numbers were declining before the pandemic and Iā€™m afraid three years away hasnā€™t helped. Please, please, please ā€” ask your family, friends, neighbors, workmates, churchgoers, club associates ā€” to pitch in and help pick up bags. Itā€™s just two hours on a Saturday morning. And you know how much good it does. Tell ā€˜em they, too, can be part of The Nationā€™s Largest, Local, One-day Food Drive.ā€ Feel good and help others before the holidays. What could be better?

How to volunteer?Big check for food bank

Direct volunteers to sign up on our websiteĀ walkandknock.org so we have a good list.Ā Volunteer Coordinator Janet Elliot is leading the charge to recruit as many folks as we can. But she canā€™t do it by herself. She needs us all to pitch in. Contact her at: janete.elliott@gmail.com

Getting the word out

Again this year, we are mailing nearly 200,000 postcards to every home and apartment in Clark County. Postcards have replaced bags as a very effective way to get the word out. We also have a strong Facebook presence, and yard signs will go out the week before. If youā€™d like some signs, contact me. Hereā€™s a link to our all-purpose flyer. Post ā€˜em everywhere!Ā

WEā€™LL TAKE MONEY, TOO

For some, itā€™s easier to donate money.Ā  Great! Visit our PayPal site atĀ https://walkandknock.org/how-to-donateĀ or send a check to Walk & Knock, P.O. Box 353, Vancouver, WA, 98666.

Over a barrel?

We also will have donation barrels out from Monday, Nov. 28 through Friday, Dec. 9 at many locations including Riverview Community Bank branches, Les Schwab Tire Centers and both Cost Less Auto Parts stores.

REWARDING PROPOSITION

Those of you Fred Meyer shoppers know their rewards program is money back in your pocket.Ā It can be money in W&Kā€™s pocket, too.Ā Their Community Rewards Program allows you to designate your favorite non-profit (W&K we hope)Ā to receive similar rebates without affecting your own rewards.Ā Its Fredā€™s way of giving to the community.Ā Please sign up and designate Walk & Knock as your recipient.Ā Itā€™s free money just waiting for you to activate.
