Walk & Knock Newsletter

Volume V, No. 2 | May ‍2024 ‍ ‍

‍THE WALK & KNOCKER

‍A quarterly newsletter for the Walk & Knock Family

Saturday, December 2

Our 39th annual Walk & Knock drive is right around the corner!

Bags are back!

‍After three years of reaching out with postcards, we will be mailing out 152,800 bags to households throughout metro Clark County. We found we could mail out a slightly smaller bag for about the cost of postcards. And bags are such a great attention getter. They won’t be lost amidst all the other mailings. Brightly printed red and brown bags should arrive the week before our Dec. 2nd drive, so watch your mailbox.

illani

Our friends up at ilani, in association with the Cowlitz Indian Tribe, are not only supporting Walk & Knock as a title sponsor, but stepping up and offering $10 in Promo Play to anyone who donates at their Walk & Knock collection bins! Join us on November 10th, as they kick-off the holiday season with their annual tree lighting and begin the Walk & Knock food drive!

Area Captains needed

Area captains, those stalwarts who oversee picking up bags in neighborhoods, are the key to a successful drive. Right now, we are several short, especially in the Mountain View area. Please consider stepping up and/or recruiting a friend. It’s a great way to help others at the holidays and feel good, too.

New website!

‍Check out Walk & Knock’s new website – walkandknock.org  Same address but a whole new look and feel thanks to our friends at Formations Design, LLC. We’ve made the volunteer map simpler and made signing up easier. Websites are always a work in progress. Let us know what you think.

Roll out the barrels

‍Barrel Coordinator Kay Hust is looking for a few good folks to help drop off and pick up our collection barrels. We’ve added a number of McDonald locations to her list this year, which is good for drop offs but begs staffing. Barrels get dropped off Monday Nov. 27 and picked up Friday, Dec. 8. If you have a pickup and would like to lend a hand, contact Kay...

Final 2022 Numbers

Just a reminder of what we did last year:  Official totals for our “back to porch pickups” 2022 drive were: 150,743 pounds of food and toiletries and $31,000 in donations. Just as importantly, more than 2,200 folks – many of them youngsters – picked up all that food.

You say hello

Up in Ridgefield, we welcome new Sector Coordinator Justin Lindsay who is taking over from Dean Stenehjem. Dean grabbed the reins and did a great job in that quickly growing community.

In Hazel Dell, Felida Sector A, we welcome longtime Area Captain Judge Robert Lewis as new Sector Coordinator, replacing Joe Pauletto. Joe, a past president, and quiet rock of Walk & Knock, will remain on our Board.

In Mountain View Sector D, we welcome new Board member Brian Switzer, as Sector D Coordinator, replacing W&K stud Adam Hegewald.

And out in Camas/Washougal, the tag team of Social Media Coordinator Nell Perry and Secretary Tammy Mackey have volunteered to replace longtime Sector Coordinator Beth Ceron.

And we say goodbye

To Dean and Adam and Beth but not Joe! Our deep gratitude goes with you for years of selfless service.

Don’t forget

‍Those of you Fred Meyer shoppers know their rewards program is money back in your pocket.  It can be money in W&K’s pocket, too.  Their Community Rewards Program allows you to designate your favorite non-profit – W&K we hope – to receive similar rebates without affecting your own rewards.  Its Fred’s way of giving to the community.  Please sign up and designate Walk & Knock as your recipient.  It’s free money just waiting for you to activate.
